What wisdom has been passed on to you that has helped you rethink the way things can be?

I went hiking, I should say struggled to hike, with Andy last week. I dreaded each hill we approached long before we reached it, while he whistled his way up every steep inclined. "Don't you dread this uphill-ness?" I huffed. Placing his hand on my back he said, "Nope. I just ask myself how I can alter my speed and stride so I get climb with pleasure. "  I decided to try it on the next hill. The idea of climbing with pleasure was completely novel, as was the thought I had a choice about what length stride I was taken. What was known to me was a long stride taken as quickly as possible. As I took what seemed to be tiny steps up the road, asking that question, "How can I do this with pleasure? Not only it possible, I discovered that I could actually look around me and enjoy what was a particularly wide green moment. I thought of my grandmother. One day, while we were sprouting lima beans on a damp paper towel she said: "Like a seed, in order to grow, you have to give up the safe, too-small shell of who you thought you were, and learn to open to what can be possible. If the shell doesn't crack open, the seed will shrivel."
